oh time!!

......and at last!! it happened - meaning, the time came for that to happen....... well, you know what it is; yes - it is this blog; so what would have caused that time to come?? what is it that exactly which sparks the time for something to happen??!! or what is time?!!

time is that which ties up every thing together, just think of it, when you are about to take a cup of tea (sorry for those who love coffee, I like tea better :) ), what if it is not there at that moment? you wouldn't even stretch your hand if the tea cup wasn't there.... had i born about a 100 years before or a 100 years after now, you wouldn't be reading this... we are existing in the same time, because of which we are able to interact....

so what else is special about time? things change with time, or time moves with change... time is defined based on motion.... from the sub-atomic particles to the large object such as moon, earth, sun, galaxies etc - if they stop, time stops. (yes, you guessed it right, you will stop aging as well, because all those bio-mechanisms which brings aging in you, stops!!).... let me tell you another example... let's say, suppose there is another world just like ours, in some unknown space of the universe, and the only difference is that everything in there moves half the speed as those of ours.... so when compared to our clocks, their clocks take double the time of our clocks to make 24 hours..... and yes, when we here in our world add a year to our age, there they add only 6 months to their age.... when we have gone through a day and a following night, they are only through their day and are about to start their night.... so what does that mean? time depends on speed of motion? i think so.... or to be more precise, time is a byproduct of matter and it's motion.... if there is no matter and there is no motion, there is no time!!!

now thinking of it,  probably you will be able to understand why we cannot reverse the time backwards or go into future..... it is because each moment is a state of the universe.... if you want to go back to a moment in the past, you would need to get the universe - the whole matter in it - into that state it was in at that moment... which is impossible... or if you want to go into a moment in the future, you need to know what the state of the universe would be at that moment and you need to get the universe into that state....... so does it make sense now to say we have been bound into a system which we call the universe where we cannot traverse the time back and forth??!!... but, don't worry :), if needed, you have a way - your imagination!! it can traverse you into any time into the past or future :)

so, now it would make sense to understand how the time would have started... time started when matter began to move!!! and when matter did not move there was no time..... so, things started moving and as a result we got time..... when I say 'things' start counting from all those things from the Higs boson that the scientists are after (or anything smaller we humans are yet to discover), to the huge non-imaginable black holes which scientists say exist (not sure if they will find out any thing larger than black holes).... so, is that all? one great moment set off the motion and hence the time - was that all special about time?? nay, nay, nay, it is only half the story of time as we know it today....

we are able to measure time!! seconds that flip off even before we talk about it; minutes are slower because of which we ask people to wait a couple of them for us; hours actually give us enough time to breath; days sometime become boring.... we wait for weeks and months to pass by; and years - we only live 60 or 70 of them... centuries tell us the stories of the past, of which we have only 30-40 of them properly available.....
so how is that we are able to measure time? what helps us measure? it is the ability to count in units that helps us measure; be it length, time, weight, temperature or anything - if you are able to define and identify a unit of that, then you will be able to measure the same...... now, coming back to time, what is that unit? we said time is the product of motion and how do we get a unit of a motion so that we will be able to count and measure it? so here comes the other specialty of time - it is not just the motion that creates time, but it is also the cyclic repetitive motion that make it actually time.... so what is special about the motion being cyclic? think about it - the minutest of the particles which have a wave nature have a cyclic motion - because, even though they move in straight lines their wave nature has an inherent cycle in them... coming to large planets, stars and groups like solar systems - all have a cyclic motion which helps us measure time.... isn't it amazing to think about all of those things how they work together to bring about this thing called time? you may also read how a second is defined here and see how it is all related to motion of matter...
